Harry Castle demonstrates a willingness to extend his knowledge beyond joinery; his chosen trade apprenticeship, to understand the complete construction process. Our judges noted his enthusiasm and passion, evidenced by him offering to come in over the weekend to do extra work and progress his training. Harry even overcame a critical COVID illness, returning to work in record time to continue his learning. His employer, David Smallcombe Ltd, states: “We have been training apprentices for over 30 years, and Harry stands out as an exceptional example of a perfect apprentice”.

This Worcestershire project by David Smallcombe Ltd sought to create a bespoke luxury bathroom for the principle bedroom suite in a new build home, which would bring together both contemporary and natural design elements. The contemporary and minimalist bathroom features Calacatta Amber marble tiles used for the wall and floor in both brick and on-trend herringbone patterns. A bespoke oak vanity unit and matching bath pane complete a truly unique project, courtesy of this Master Builder’s talented workshop joinery professionals. The team also embraced new technologies to maintain coordination despite social distancing rules resulting from COVID-19.

This project saw Templederry Properties Limited convert a series of derelict barns into a luxury five-bedroom, five-bathroom home. Despite half the buildings requiring significant reconstruction and the extra challenges of a heavily waterlogged, overgrown site, Templederry persevered to transform this forgotten farmyard into a work of modern beauty. Retaining many of the original features and repurposing existing materials, the team were able to produce a contemporary finish in 200-year-old agricultural buildings. The finished product features oak doors, around 300 LED light fittings and unique features such as an original timber fragment fashioned into a lighting fixture in the kitchen. Their client “couldn’t be happier” with their new home.

This stunning project consisted of a rear house extension with bi-folding doors and a roof lantern, a new kitchen and a large garden renovation. This Master Builder brought the architect’s designs to life by implementing a frameless glass lantern, Howdens kitchen, Kardean herringbone flooring, slatted cedar cladding, K-rend planters, porcelain slabs and artificial grass. Despite the disruption caused by the pandemic, effective communication was maintained between builder and client, and the latter was thrilled with the result, stating: “Abbey & Lyndon were brilliant throughout the project and we are super pleased with our job”.
