We work with a range of strategic partners to improve collaboration across the UK construction industry and to promote the importance of quality, standards, and training.
Through our partnerships we also explore opportunities to better support the needs of small and medium-sized building companies, and we highlight the benefits of becoming, and choosing, a Master Builder.
Our strategic partners are:
Construction Industry Training Board (CITB)
CITB’s role is to help the UK construction industry attract and retain new talent, support skills development by providing training and resources and ensure training standards and qualifications continue to align with the needs of the industry.
We work closely with CITB to call for greater support for small and medium-sized construction companies involved in training the next generation of tradespeople. Through our position on the CITB board and our broader partnership, we give small builders a voice to help shape industry training requirements.
HomeOwners Alliance
The HomeOwners Alliance is a consumer property website, providing expert advice and helpful services for all the key moments of buying, selling or owning a home. The website has grown to become one of the leading property advice websites with over 4.6million visitors coming to their site every year.
Whether you’re trying to get on the property ladder for the first time, are upsizing, downsizing, investing in property or simply managing and maintaining your home, they provide a myriad of tips and tools to help. No jargon, just easy to navigate information and services.
Local Authority Building Control (LABC)
LABC is the largest building control provider in England and Wales, with more than 3,000 surveyors across every local authority, and links with Local Authority Building Standards Scotland and Building Control Northern Ireland.
Through our strategic partnership with LABC, FMB members benefit from the option of working with a dedicated LABC team in their local area, streamlined work through LABC Assured which is a one-off certification process, access to training opportunities and promotion through joint marketing activity.
National Home Improvement Council (NHIC)
The National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) is a UK membership organisation dedicated to improving the home improvement industry. They advocate for energy-efficient and sustainable practices, while also promoting high standards of quality and professionalism among their members.
We are a member of the NHIC, which represents a diverse range of industry stakeholders, including manufacturers, installers, trade bodies, and federations. Their unique position allows them to provide a comprehensive overview and representation of the UK home improvement sector.
Planning Portal
The Planning Portal is an online central resource for planning and building regulations information for both builders and consumers across England and Wales. The portal is also the national planning application service, which all consumers in England must use to submit their plans for approval.
As part of our strategic partnership, Planning Portal in England exclusively promotes the FMB’s Find a Builder service through its website and guidance to encourage consumers to choose a Master Builder for their building project. Though the Professional Portal, the Planning Portal also provides a wide range of free resources and guidance on changes to planning or building regulations to help builders understand each step in the building process.
TrustMark
TrustMark is the only government-endorsed standards scheme for trades that operate in and around the home. Builders and other trades must join TrustMark through a registered scheme operator relevant to their trade.
As the largest of all scheme providers, the FMB offers members the opportunity to join TrustMark for an additional fee. Members can then display both the FMB and TrustMark logos to offer a higher level of reassurance to their clients that they are a professional, quality builder. Joint FMB and TrustMark members also benefit from increased exposure to potential customers through promotion on the TrustMark’s Find a Tradesperson search.
The FMB is also working with TrustMark and the Insulation Assurance Authority to provide a route to PAS2030 certification for members who want to take part in the Green Homes Grant scheme.
