Overview
Our clients had reached retirement age and decided to address their future living requirements and
concluded they needed to move house to a more suitable location and dwelling within the same general area. Location wise they wanted to live on the edge of a rural community large enough to provide essential services such as shops, doctors etc within walking distance and to be on a main bus route to larger local towns.
The property to provide ground floor living for themselves with two additional bedrooms and facilities for visiting family and friends. Ideally, the property to have a small garden with views and access to a range of local walks. After reading South Lakes District Council Strategic Plan, Milnthorpe stood out as the ideal location. They were unable to find an established suitable property but then became aware of a building plot in Milnthorpe with the potential to meet all of their requirements.
Judges’ comments
Experience shows here with sourcing the right materials for the build. Challenging build as it was sunken into the ground as well as set back not to dominate or obstruct the entrance to the village and the views. Builder dealt well with neighbors and approached them before work started to
manage disruption. Excellent landscaping around the build, tree planting, shrubs etc. Well-designed property that sits well in its environment.
