When Caroline and Bruce approached Cornerhouse Building Contactors to turn their vision for 34C The Square into reality they were ready for the challenge that lied ahead to turn this neglected property into a unique dwelling for these first-time property owners.
34C or as it came to be affectionately known as “The Hovel” was an old carpenter’s shop that had been left unused for quite a number of years and had started to deteriorate to the point the front wall had started to belly out and if it had not been for the old staircase attached to the joists the wall would not have been standing. The property had had several planning applications to change it into a dwelling but Caroline’s brother, an RIBA architect, had developed these previous designs to ensure it would be a dwelling that worked for Caroline and Bruce.
