This 'barn conversion' style new build was an absolute pleasure to build and was in fact our project when we were joining the FMB. Our build was therefore inspected by the FMB and ensures that it was completed to a high standard.

With stonework, larch cladding, a Catnic SSR2 roofing system and aluminium anthracite doors and windows, the outside includes a nice contrast of materials. The inside has an open plan kitchen, dining and living area with underfloor heating throughout which were finished with an engineered oak floor. Bedrooms have been completed with top quality en-suites to give them that luxury finish.

Overall, this build is a delightful modern bungalow with that 'country' feel.

This job started as a straight forward renovation. After some investigation we had discovered that the entire front of the house was not built on a foundation. This meant we had to temporarily prop the back elevation of roof, strip the front pitch of roof completely back, take down gable ends and drop the masonry face of the building. We then had a blank canvas so we dug new foundations and rebuilt back up to wall plate then cut the front elevation of roof back into the exact place as before to then pick up the back elevation again.

Not only did this job come with its structural complications but it also had a narrow access and Covid 19 also hit when we were undergoing this project which made materials even harder to get. After 11 months we are so happy with the outcome. The property has beautiful views which are maximised with the modern, open and simplistic design.

This unloved and unused barn was converted under the "Class Q" permission. It was a mess but had great potential to become a unique holiday let with amazing views.

The work began in February 2019 and after 8 months we had finished.

Ben Lawson (Duck Egg Construction) is the best builder I have met. He is truthful, open to discussion and extremely competent. Ben repaired a mix of storm damage to our roof, decayed roof felt and poor gutters that were causing damp and crumbling render on the chimney and roof parapets. In spite of recent heavy rain no water has got in through the repairs and the building is drying out at last. Ben was extremely understanding about the conservation issues regarding a pair of nesting gulls and came back after the babies had fledged. His colleague Steve also did an excellent job replacing the lead in the roof gulley. Thank you Ben.

Duck Egg construction were excellent throughout the rebuilding of our house. The works to be completed were taxing as the site was on a steep incline with limited access. Ben managed the whole project expertly and I highly reccomended his company to anyone looking for a builder you can trust.
