The Kitchen, which occupies the former Boat Shed Site at the edge of Poole Park lake, has been completely remodelled and refurbished to create a stylish new venue to eat, drink and relax.
We carried out refurbishment works in a short timespan and changed the entire orientation of the building and eating areas. A new bar was installed at the kitchen end of the building, which opens up the usable space and offers views into the newly created alfresco eating courtyard.
More space was made available by removing a large spiral staircase. New automatic doors were installed on the courtyard side to create a welcoming entrance, with a new canopy.
The kitchen area has been opened up so the chefs' work can be seen from the main dining areas.
A new wood pizza oven has been installed. The back of house kitchen and restroom facilities have also been refurbished. Complete redecorations were carried out along with new floor coverings and bespoke finishes and fixtures. Large M&E improvements have been implemented including new lighting in the restaurant area with a number of clustered feature pendent lights being installed.
Externally, a new eating area was created with Millboard decking, bench seating, gabion walling and monolithic Purbeck stone lit features. Coupled with the soft landscaping and external redecorations, this has really improved the look and feel of the building. A stand-alone ice cream and shakes parlour called “Scoops” has been created with a funky bar, sliding folding doors and high seating area with views to the new courtyard and lake beyond.
Greendale worked very closely with the architects DMWA and the Client project manager on this fast track contract so that the critical opening date was met. It was a truly collaborative project and the outcome is a stunning new eatery for Poole.

After a competitive tender process and subsequent value engineering, Greendale were proud to be chosen as the Main Contractors for this ecological new build project. The project comprised of two purpose designed workshop buildings in the heart of the Lantern Community, to be used for pottery, weavery, seasonal crafts and other activities.
The two workshops were constructed and designed to a high environmental standard following the 'Passivhaus' principles, a rigorous energy and comfort standard originally developed in Germany. These principles offer genuine benefit to the user and environment by achieving excellent standards of thermal comfort and indoor air quality, whilst minimising energy consumption.
These workshops have good levels of natural daylight and ventilation, with automatically opening windows providing a comfortable internal environment all year round. The roofs are finished in cedar shingles with small elements of copper trim. The external walls were built with clay bricks, woven cedar laths and coloured render elements. Internally the work spaces have bespoke joinery fitted with cedar battened ceilings, providing bright working areas. Each building is self contained with its own toilet facilities, kitchen and flexible work space.
The project was voted winner of the RICS Awards 2015 South West under the Community Benefit category.
