Shortlisted in two categories at the BuildIt 2024 awards, our latest self build project delivered an energy-efficient home from the ground up, with a design plan focused on achieving significant reductions in both carbon emissions and heating demand. Initial assessments highlighted areas where high-specification materials and systems would be necessary, especially in insulation, glazing, and airtightness, to align with sustainability goals and exceed building regulation requirements.

This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable construction whilst incorporating high-specification materials and systems that deliver on both aesthetic and performance goals. 

We were appointed by Niki Schafer Interior Design to undertake the reconfiguration of an Edwardian 7-bedroom house in the prestigious OX2 area of Oxford. The scheme required structural alterations to form a walk-in wardrobe and master ensuite along with modifications throughout the property to suit the clients styles and needs.

The project was a finalist in the SBID International Design Awards 2023, Residential House Under 1M category and it was fantastic to have the quality of our workmanship recognised in delivering this challenging brief. 

Our highly experienced team completed a full internal renovation whilst adding three extensions to this substantial 5 bed property located in central Bicester. Our client required a large, open plan living space on the ground floor which was extended to the rear to form an open plan kitchen / lounge complete with island and formal dining room. The side extension allowed for a formal lounge and secluded courtyard patio. On the first floor we extended above the garage to form a primary bedroom with ensuite and walk-in dressing room. 

Acorn Close, a wrap-around extension was completed during Covid-19 at our own property. The pandemic was extremely challenging time for everyone but it gave us the opportunity to complete our own home renovation project. 

Our existing project was an end of terrace with garage too small for a modern car. We extended our footprint with a single story extension to the rear creating a formal lounge leading off an open-plan kitchen to the garden. The redundant garage was replaced with a double story side extension creating a second lounge, utility and WC/shower room on the ground floor and a primary bedroom with walk-in wardrobes and ensuite on the first floor.

Cedar Lodge is a contemporary timber frame bungalow built within the grounds of our clients existing property which posed its own unique challenges and opportunities. 

The site in the rear garden, accessible via a narrow 20m driveway with neighbouring properties on each side offered limited space for construction activities and material storage. Each phase of the project had to be meticulously planned as we only had one route of access and egress to site and off-site prefabrication of the timber frame proved crucial to the success of this project. 

Cedar Lodge demonstrates that with careful planning, innovative design and efficient construction practices, building a high-quality home on a restricted site is achievable. The success of this project highlights the potential of timber frame construction in urban infill developments, offering a sustainable and practical solution for modern housing needs.

The restoration and expansion of historical buildings are often fraught with challenges, particularly when adding modern amenities to centuries-old structures. The Windmill was no exception, it had been out of operation for decades before its latest owners embarked on a project to convert it into a unique residential property. The challenge was to preserve the windmill's historical integrity while adding modern living space, the solution was to construct a subterranean extension.

Key considerations during the design and planning stages were foundation stability, soil composition, the harmony between existing and new and ensuring the new structure had adequate lighting and ventilation systems.

Through meticulous planning, innovative engineering, and sensitive design, the project successfully preserved the historical integrity of the windmill while providing modern, functional living space
