Client: Brent Council Duration: 20 weeks One of the last nineteenth-century buildings in it's neighbourhood, Stonebridge School has served the local community for 120 years. It is a remarkable example of operational heritage. Built by a Willesden School Board architect who was known for his grand designs, the school was much larger and more imposing than many of those found nearby. Now a Grade II listed building, the refurbishment had to closely follow the advice of a conservation officer and was carried out to a tight programme during term time. Day-to-day liaising with the school was necessary to ensure a smooth operation. Works included: Window replacement to match existing: the internal and external trims with detailed mouldings were matched; dormer ceilings were supported internally to allow existing windows to be removed. Roofing: new lead work to 6 dormer roofs; gutter repairs and sealing to all joints; new lead loft hatch matched to existing. Specialist cleaning: Doff cleaning system used samples approved by conservation office. Stone and brick repairs: render repair works to the existing columns and stonework dormers were carried out after samples were taken on the existing mortar at two different depths. Internal and External refurbishment of 2 large outbuildings, previously part of Welsh School.
