R & M Williams undertook this £5.4 million project to transform of a former warehouse on Kings Lane, Swansea, into three floors of office and creative space. In addition to this, we constructed the 'Creative Cluster', a 30,000 sq ft. development of commercial and office space containing over 5 floors. The purpose of the building is to provide a hub for small start-ups and creative companies, as well as space for the performing arts. Another aspect of this Urban Village project was to part demolish and convert a 100 year old warehouse in the centre of Swansea City into an office block and training centre for long term unemployed people. Part of the original building is Medieval, so it was vital for our site manager to maintain close communication with archaeologists in order to monitor and record any artefacts. The project team were shortlisted for the Chartered Institute Housing’s “Most Community Focused Contractor", demonstrating our commitment to sustainable construction. The build also won R & M Williams the award for best Commercial Project in Wales at the FMB Cymru Master Builder Awards 2017. Read more about the awards here.
