Andy started my extension just at the time, after COVID, when prices rocketed, and supplies became limited. He spent countless hours on the phone sourcing many of the normally common materials such as bricks (to match the existing 1920’s brickwork) and wood, even travelling to Yorkshire to get the required bricks. Because of this, the job didn’t suffer delays, and he would always find something else to be working on should the materials not arrive on time. A rare builder, not stopping for multiple tea breaks!
Read lessKaidan has just recently started the second year of his Brickwork apprenticeship; this involves the ramping up in detail in his practical and theoretical work. Kaidan has produced some excellent evidence of his daily tasks linking directly to his brickwork standard qualification. If Kaidan keeps up his high standards combined with his excellent motivation, he should complete his apprenticeship in a timely manner or possibly earlier. Kaidan has set his termly targets to complete the qualification at an earlier stage without lowering his individual standards.

The site was a grass field on a hill side that was never used so the client had plans drawn and had planning permission approved. The client had initially wanted 4 semi-detached houses and work started to get the groundworks and retaining wall to site done.
But then covid hit and the client’s hospitality business had to close, so work stopped. The clients’ circumstances and needs changed and so they changed the remit. Instead of houses, they now wanted six luxury hotel suites, and two self-catering party houses that would each provide four large bedrooms with bathrooms with a large living/dining and kitchen area. Perfect for groups or families to come together for celebrations. All these new rooms had to be unique and have a spacious luxurious feel. The client, architect and I had many meetings and discussed how we could best change the layout for the new project.

Andy Radford is an absolute pleasure to work with. He takes ideas, and nurtures and formulates them into innovative designs and craftsmanship that never fail to surpass expectations. The quality of the craftmanship is exemplary and the service is inspiring. He goes way above expectations at every level. Andy has been a critical part of the development and success of our business. He will sit, design, and discuss every aspect with us, and when we decide to add to or change things mid-build he will sit with us and do it all again. Andy is always honest in his opinions and how our often-thought crazy, ideas can be achieved. Each one is always met and overcome courteously and professionally and always delivered on time and within budget. I feel like Andy has become a much valued and honest friend and in business these days it is a rarity. He is a fantastic ambassador for the FMB and sets a high standard that other builders can only aspire to

The farmhouse was a private dwelling adjacent to the client’s grounds. The client wanted it extended and converted into a stand-alone wedding venue so that smaller weddings could have the whole place to marry and stay within its private grounds. There were five en suite bedrooms, a full bar and lounge/ snug, a ceremony room, and the large and airy function room. As well as its own large professional kitchen. The design of a modern theme within a period farmhouse was done by a collaboration between us, the architect, and the client, but changed and evolved once we started stripping it back One addition once started was the loft conversion into an additional bespoke bridal suite with stunning bathroom ( see bathroom entry). An interior designer was brought in to design the colour scheme and source the wallpaper and soft furnishings.
Read lessWe were renovating the old farmhouse which the client had acquired to turn into a bespoke wedding venue. Two months into the build whilst inspecting the loft area with the client and architect we all realised the potential to extend into this area and provide a bespoke bridal suite and vast bathroom. The client's brief was that it was to be luxurious and unique.
Read lessThe structure was initially an old cow byre in the grounds of the customers parents’ home. About 12 years ago we turned it into a small open plan studio for them to give her some privacy. The customer got in touch to advise that she was now married and had a new baby and was in dire need of additional space, as a small studio was not practical. She did not want to move so had obtained planning permission for a small extension to the byre, however it fell under conservation remit.
We took the basic plan and designed a new build & layout to accommodate all her requests. Boot room/toilet, living space and kitchen downstairs and 2 bedrooms and bathroom upstairs.

We turned our client’s vision into reality, with the transformation of a former horse riding arena into a wedding chapel complete with reception, bar, kitchen, dressing rooms and garden - all within a six-month deadline and while the hotel on site remained open. This resulted in a unique wedding venue to take 200 plus guests which has received fantastic reviews and is booked years in advance.
Radford Construction Services converted this old stable block into luxury, individually designed guest suites for the local South Causey Inn hotel. This even included a treehouse room, incorporating a living tree and a ‘shed bed’ made of hand-picked silver birch. The unique nature of these rooms required lots of different skills to be utilised for the finishes. Lots of reclaimed materials were used for the bespoke design. This project was awarded best Commercial Project at the FMB Northern Counties Master Builder Awards 2017.
Read lessWe performed the complete conversion and fit-out of this original 1966 Routemaster bus, turning it into a bespoke luxury hotel room complete with a luxurious bathroom. This required us to completely strip the interior and resolve the condensation due to the metal structure of the bus. Templates were made for all the new fittings and the roof and side panels had to be removable to enable fixing for plumbing and electrics. The design aimed to maximise the confined space and enable reinstatement of the original bus. Our work on this project won us best Small Renovation Project at the FMB Northern Counties Master Builder Awards 2017.
