Vaughan Design and Development have recently completed this full design and build project in the stunning market town of Midhurst in West Sussex. We completed a one story extension to the rear of the house, adding a considerable footprint to our client’s living and entertaining space. As this is a townhouse in a rural setting, our clients’ wanted their home to keep a traditional style but with plenty of colour and character. Holly and her team set about to utilise every space in this home to its’ maximum, where space was always an issue for this family.

We transformed a tired 1960’s home, completely out of place in this sought-after area of Warwick Bench Road in Guildford, into a unique contemporary styled detached family house for our client.  The fantastic setting of this house, which overlooked the Surrey Downs from its’ highest viewpoint, warranted something quite special. Following this brief, together with our architect, we designed and created an ‘upside down’ house with the living accommodation on the first floor. Large areas of glass in every room with floor to ceiling windows let in as much light as possible, and meant you could fully appreciate the incredible surrounding views. Crittal Style internal doors and parquet flooring added that touch of Scandi cool to the interior of this fantastic property.

This unique country home had already been extended with the previous owners, and although the house itself was full of character, this was not reflected in the interior design. We created an interior that was sympathetic to the period of the property, but that also had a slight modern twist, with muted but bold colours and textures. Reclaimed materials were used in many of the rooms, such as the cladding on the kitchen doors, the wood for the extraordinary custom built master bed and the limestone on the utility room floors. These used materials sit alongside stand out pieces such as the brass bath, geometric concrete tiles and hand printed botanical fabric. This modern rustic aesthetic creates a cosy, inviting interior that also functions perfectly as a family home.

We converted this former launderette right in the centre of Guildford into a mixture of one and two bedroom flats. A third floor was added with a rear extension to maximize the site, with a total of ten units including two penthouses with balconies over looking the stunning Guildford Castle. This site provided many challenges being a substantial project based right in the middle of town, but we managed to deliver this on time and on budget, and everyone was thrilled with the final result.
