As part of FMB’s work within the NI Construction Group over the past couple of years most meetings have been held virtually. This has proved an effective way for individuals and businesses to communicate with each other during the pandemic. However, there are some limitations to virtual meetings, and one is the opportunity to network effectively with buyers.

The Department for Transport (DfT) group and other key stakeholders are hosting an in-person SME Supplier Event at:

  • PRONI 2 Titanic Boulevard, Belfast BT3 9HQ on 24 January 2023

This will provide small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with the opportunity to network with senior representatives from across the Department. This is the second of several regional events to be held throughout the UK over this and the next financial year.

Their desire is to help more SMEs become involved in public procurement contracts.

What’s on the agenda?

The event will include:

  • Keynote from Northern Ireland Construction Group members.
  • Keynote from Paul Rodgers, Department for Transport Group Commercial Director and Government Commercial Function Leadership Group SME sponsor.
  • Presentation from Jane Lynch on sustainability, joint bidding and the Help to Grow Management Course.
  • Keith Waller Programme Director - Construction Innovation Hub – SMEs role in Construction Innovation
  • Key suppliers sharing best practice on how to become a sub-contractor in the supply chain.
  • Networking with Crown Commercial Service will provide details on the SME friendly frameworks available and how to enrol.
  • Public Procurement Review Service (PPRS) video – PPRS allows suppliers to anonymously raise any concerns they have about public sector buying and prompt payment. The video provides information on the role of PPRS and the escalation process.
