In our Ideal Logic+ Combi boiler review, we look at how this boiler performs in terms of efficiency and power. You can also see how this model compares with other similar products in terms of price, performance and guarantees.
The award-winning Ideal Logic+ Combi boiler is an energy-efficient and Quiet Mark-accredited combi boiler that would suit the heating and hot water needs of many homes. The Ideal Logic+ Combi is available in three different power outputs: 24kW, 30kW and 35kW. The 35kW model has a flow rate of 14.5 litres per minute, which is impressive for a combi boiler of this size and ideal for the average three-bedroom home.
You can enjoy peace of mind with a solid 10-year guarantee for the heat exchanger and a seven-year warranty for parts and labour. These warranties are longer than what some other brands offer for similar products. The brand is exceptionally well-regarded, having won several awards for its products and earning a 4.8-star rating on Trustpilot.
A large digital display makes it easy to monitor your boiler, as pressure gauges and controls are permanently displayed on the front of the unit. The boiler has been designed in the UK and comes with frost protection, making it ideal for the UK’s cold winters.
A highlight of this model is its compact size. It measures just 700 (h) x 395 (w) x 278 (d) mm, so you can easily fit it in a kitchen cupboard. The fact that it comes with several flueing options and has a low lift weight (29.2kg) means installation will be relatively quick and easy.
The system is compatible with Ideal’s Weather Compensation Kit. This kit senses the temperature outside your house and adjusts the temperature of your radiators, helping you save energy. The Energy Saving Trust has endorsed this boiler when linked with the Weather Compensation Kit.
What really appeals about this boiler is its low price tag. Depending on what model you buy, you can expect to pay from £879 to £1,011 (excluding installation).
The Ideal Logic+ Combi boiler is compact and quiet. Manufactured entirely in the UK to high standards, it also holds a coveted Quiet Mark for its quiet operating volume, with built-in frost protection, a simple backlit LCD display and generous guarantees to back its quality and longevity.
Highlights: Long guarantees, quiet operation and significant potential energy savings.
Key benefit: Excellent performance and high efficiency at an affordable price.
Fuel: Gas, hydrogen-ready (20% blend).
Flow Rate: 9.9–14.5 litres per minute (l/min)
The Ideal Logic+ Combi boiler comes highly recommended, but it’s always a good idea to weigh up the pros and cons before buying. Boilers are a significant investment, so you want to make the right choice.
The pros of choosing the Ideal Logic+ Combi boiler include:
There are some drawbacks to the Logic+ Combi boiler, including:
The Ideal Logic+ Combi boiler is a condensing combi boiler. It provides both heating and hot water instantly but runs at a lower temperature than older, traditional boilers. It also takes up considerably less space.
A system boiler works with a hot water cylinder to provide hot water. It contains an expansion vessel and pump so that it can be installed in a sealed system. A combi boiler like the Ideal Logic+ has a built-in hot water heat exchanger, so it heats water on demand instead of storing it in a cylinder. This makes your boiler highly energy efficient while providing hot water on demand.
Costs can vary between suppliers and installers. Online estimates give a fair indication of what you can expect to pay:
Ideal Logic+ boiler cost | |
---|---|
Boiler unit only (including VAT) | From £879 to £1,011 |
Average installation cost (including VAT) | From £500 to £1,000 |
Sundries (filters, flues) | From £300 |
Total cost | From £1,679 to £2,311 |
Cleaning and maintaining an Ideal Logic+ boiler is very simple. Ideal recommends dusting your boiler with a dry cloth and removing stubborn marks by wiping with a non-abrasive damp cloth.
The pressure gauge will display your boiler’s water pressure at any given time. If the pressure falls below one to two bars, there could be a leak in your system. You can repressurise your boiler by turning off the tap when it reaches one bar, then hitting the restart button. Call your installer to provide support if this doesn’t fix the issue.
It’s a good idea to have your boiler professionally serviced at least once a year.
“Ideal has achieved a lot over the last century, right from their first British boiler, the Ideal Cookanheat, through to their latest Logic+ and Logic ranges. The Logic+ 24 is a showcase of modern technology to improve not only their efficiency as a unit but also their energy output. The Logic+ is small in size and supports a wide range of controls, which makes it the perfect fit for properties with one bathroom and up to three bedrooms.”
“With the largest output in its series, the Ideal Logic Plus is designed to be an effective source of heating and on-demand hot water. Manufactured to be compact in size, this boiler could be easily fitted into a standard kitchen cupboard and requires no additional tanks or cylinders. If you’ve got a household with four or more bedrooms, and up to 20 radiators, the Logic Plus 35kW combi boiler could be a great option for you. Designed to be both energy-efficient and cost-effective, installing this boiler into your home could help you reduce your energy usage and potentially help lower your energy bills.”
“Ideal has won awards for the Logic+, including the Queen’s Award 2013 and the Good Housekeeping Reader Recommended Status in both 2013 and 2017. Designed and manufactured in the company’s UK factory in Hull, they have a reputation for affordability and excellent energy saving. The Ideal Logic+ includes built-in frost protection to protect against cold weather. While some customers may prefer control panels that are hidden away, pressure gauges and control panels are permanently displayed at the front of the unit so you can easily check status and performance.”
“My Ideal Logic+ Boiler was installed about five year ago, no problems just serviced every year by the installer. This year the service engineer reported that the sump needs replacing before the winter sets in. Still under the seven-year warranty I call Ideal. Appointment made, engineer calls at appointed time, agrees to repair and replace sump. No fuss no bother just got on with the task, and confirmed all ok now. Also recommended some further action to be done by the installer to bring up to current standards. Well pleased with Ideal’s support and engineers visit.”
“We were both concerned & disappointed when our Ideal combi boiler installed only eight months previously developed a fault & became temperamental. Ideal Heating customer services quickly confirmed it was covered by a valid 10-year warranty & duly sent an engineer as quickly as possible. He discovered an ignition fault, fitted the new parts required there & then & gave the boiler a thorough test. All is well – thank you Ideal Heating for great & speedy service which is much appreciated. Happy to recommend Ideal despite this hiccup.”
“Great warranty service call. Had the Logic plus 35 and only made a warranty claim for the first time since 2016 (under six years) Ian (Ideal engineer) was quite knowledgeable and picked up on safety issues from my installation which has now been rectified. I can now say, keeping your boiler within warranty is a must especially with Ideal boilers to give you that peace of mind. Thank you Ideal and Ian for a great outcome.”
The Ideal Logic+ is very efficient and cost-effective, providing a range of powerful heating and hot water outputs for its small size. It’s a great fit if you live in a home with one bathroom and three to four bedrooms.
We think this award-winning boiler is an excellent investment, not only because of its low upfront price and lengthy warranty period, but also because it can help save money on your energy bills in the years to come. What’s more, the model comes with frost protection, making it suitable for the UK’s climate (it keeps operating even if temperatures drop below −5°C).
Another significant advantage is this boiler’s compact size. It’s also very lightweight and comes with several flueing options, so your installer can have the job done quickly and with ease.
If you are on a tight budget and live in a smaller home with one bathroom, we recommend the Ideal Logic+ Combi boiler as a worthwhile investment.
