If you’re considering purchasing a Viessmann Vitocal 200-G for your home, it’s important to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages.
Some of the benefits of the Viessmann Vitocal 200-G ground source heat pump include:
There are a few disadvantages to take into account as well:
Warranty: Viessmann offers a standard two-year warranty with their product, which can be extended if the heat pump is installed by a Viessmann-trained professional installer. This is lower than many of the standard warranties offered by their competitors.
Ground source heat pumps use renewable energy from the ground to lower the consumption of fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions. Basically, a ground source heat pump extracts heat from the ground, then transfers this to the water system heating the house. The Vitocal 200-G comes with a highly efficient compressor (which amplifies the heat taken from the ground) that enables it to achieve high maximum flow temperatures.
Alongside heating, the Viessmann Vitocal 200-G can be adapted to offer passive cooling in summer.
The Viessmann Vitotronic 200 weather-compensated control unit allows for two separate heating circuits to be integrated and controlled via the app.
The Viessmann Vitocal 200-G is a good option for new build or existing buildings, but there are a few alternatives in the same price range worth considering. The Kensa Evo range is even more efficient, with an A+++ rating. It’s compact, comes with a 5-year warranty and offers maximum flow temperatures of up to 60°C and higher.
If you need to heat a larger home and need a bigger output from your heat pump, you should look at Viessmann’s Vitocal 350-G instead. It’s probably one of the most powerful ground source heat pumps you can buy, with single-stage heating outputs of up to 42.3kW and two-stage outputs as high as 84.6kW. Of course, it does come with a price tag that’s considerably higher than the 200-G.
The Nibe F-series is another fair option, with an operating range of up to 43kW, but it is priced at nearly double the amount of the Vitocal 200-G.
The Viessmann Vitocal 200-G ground source heat pump is very reasonably priced. Here’s how it compares to some of the other models on the market:
Manufacturer | Cost (excluding installation and labour) |
---|---|
Viessmann Vitocal 200-G | £8,000 |
Viessmann Vitocal 350-G | £10,000 |
Kenso Evo | £6,000 |
The Viessmann Vitocal 200-G will need annual servicing to keep it in optimal condition. The professional technician will identify any leaks, check refrigerant levels and find any worn or malfunctioning parts that may need to be replaced. They will also check the ducts for any obstructions.
“The Vitocal 222-G is another of Viessmann’s compact ground source heat pumps, available in outputs of 5.8kW, 7.4kW and 10.4kW. It has an integral domestic hot water cylinder with a capacity of 220 litres and is best suited to detached houses. One of the great things about this heat pump is that it’s barely audible, which means it can be placed almost anywhere and even near your living space.”
“Viessmann is a trusted brand in the home heating industry. Long a manufacturer of traditional boilers, it has expanded into ground source heat pumps and has options to cover a wide range of needs. The company’s Vitocal models are some of the most popular ground source heat pumps due to their power and efficiency.”
“The installation went well on the day. Installer came back a few days later at our request to hide an unsightly new “Nest” electric cable in the wall. The boiler was sited higher on the wall than the previous one, so we will have to get a cupboard built around it to hide the open underside of the boiler from view.
It is VERY quiet in operation; this was why we chose this boiler, as it’s directly under our bedroom – the previous one woke us up.
However, in very cold weather (1 deg), it doesn’t heat up the radiators as well as the previous boiler, despite being slightly more powerful. We are waiting for winter to get this investigated and fixed. There may be some conflict with the Nest controls, or the new pump may not be powerful enough for microbore pipes – or some other issue. In very cold weather (1 deg.), the boiler decides to cycle off before the rads in the living room get hot. They get hot easily when it’s 6 degrees outside. It’s very annoying, and we are not sure why this is happening. So it’s still work in progress, and the installer should sort it out this coming winter.”
“Recently had some issues with a very old Ground Source Heat Pump unit that had been playing up due to misuse. After a phone call to Viessmann, I received a very prompt response and the services of not one but two engineers. I cannot fault the hours and effort put in by the team, who really went the extra mile to get the system back up and running. I definitely felt I got value for money and would fully recommend it in future. Also, the technical knowledge and advice/recommendations received were top quality, and we were very happy.”
The Viessmann Vitocal 200-G doesn’t come with many of the bells and whistles as other models but nonetheless has everything you need and expect from a ground source heat pump. High flow temperatures, a high Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP), and low noise make it an attractive option for many homeowners.
The Viessmann Vitocal is fairly compact, with a high-efficiency brine circuit pump and heating circuit pump, instantaneous water heater and a weather-compensated heat pump control unit with an outside temperature sensor.
It’s not as powerful as the 350-G in the Viessmann Vitocal range, but it’s not as expensive either, coming in a full £2,000 cheaper than the 350-G unit. Having said that, the Vitocal 200-G is cheaper than the 350-G, but it’s far from cheap, and if you need to heat a larger home, you might want to consider other options.
The Vitocal Viessmann 200-G is easy to maintain, and the heat pump module can be quickly removed and repaired thanks to its simple push-fit connections, which also means that it’s easy to install.
The unit is already optimised for maximum efficiency and can be adjusted via Viessmann apps and its web-enabled control system.
If you are looking for a dependable, efficient and sturdy ground source heat pump for a mid-sized, newly built, semi-detached home, the Viessmann Vitocal 200-G has the right mix of features and benefits for you. Viessmann has actively promoted the unit to new builds and made sure that all accessories and parts are compliant with modern requirements and standards.
The company has a solid reputation and a 4.4-star rating on Trustpilot, indicating mostly favourable reviews from customers.
