Solar battery storage

You can include solar battery storage when purchasing your system through Effective Home, or you can have one retroactively installed down the line. Effective Home offers two solar batteries: SunSynk and the Tesla Powerwall 3.

EV charging points

If you have an electric car, you can get a free EV charging point fitting with your Effective Home solar panel installation.

Effective Home certifications

As any good solar installer should, Effective Home has a number of accreditations and certifications from major industry bodies to help you feel more confident in your decision to use its services. These include:

  • Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS): Effective Home is an MCS-approved installer, meaning it must adhere to industry-recognised standards of quality, competence and compliance. While MCS-accreditation isn’t a legal requirement, all the best solar installers have it.
  • TrustMark: This is a not-for-profit, government-endorsed scheme for work carried out in or around the home. This means Effective Home has been vetted to ensure it meets certain standards, including a commitment to good customer service.
  • Energy Performance Validation Scheme (EPVS): This certification ensures that any documentation you receive from Effective Home, including performance estimates and monetary savings figures, are accurate and up to standard.
  • National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC): This certification is for building services contractors, and means Effective Home is held to the highest industry standards for its solar installations.
  • Home Insulation and Energy Systems Contractors Scheme (HIES): Effective Home’s HIES accreditation means it is annually vetted to make sure it adheres to the scheme’s consumer code of conduct.

How much does an Effective Home solar installation cost?

Effective Home states on its website that the cost of its solar panel systems starts from £6,650. How much you actually pay will depend on how many solar panels you need, as recommended by the installer.

When purchasing solar panels through Effective Home, the service includes the cost of the panels themselves, the installation, a 25-year warranty, and what it calls ‘effective aftercare’.

There are a number of different ways you can pay for your Effective Home solar installation:

  • Cash: You can pay for your solar panels upfront, in full.
  • ECO 4: If eligible, you can have some or all of your system paid for through the ECO 4 solar panel grant.
  • Solar finance: Effective Home offers a solar panel finance option that allows you to pay for your system in monthly instalments over 15 years, alongside a small deposit.
  • Energy Shield subscription: You can register your interest in Effective Home’s Energy Shield subscription service. Instead of owning your panels, Effective Home installs panels on your roof, then sells you the energy generated at a tariff that is fixed for five years.

Effective Home customer reviews

Effective Home has an ‘Excellent’ Trustpilot rating of 4.4 out of five stars, based on more than 2,200 reviews.

In Effective Home’s five star reviews – which make up 73 per cent of its overall score – customers speak very highly of the company’s installation services. Reviews frequently mention the company’s professionalism, efficiency and organisation.

However, a common theme in its one and two-star reviews is a lack of communication from Effective Home following the initial survey. There’s also evidence of some negative installation experiences, and poor customer service in the event of a problem with the system.

“I am delighted with the service I received from Effective Home from the outset. I was impressed by the professionalism and efficiency throughout. Kayleigh managed the process and at no stage was I left not knowing what was going to happen next. I was also impressed with the installers, Lee and Oliver who worked diligently to install the system. The installation was completed with minimal fuss or disruption. I have already recommended Effective Home to a friend. I have every confidence in the company and the quality of the products. I am so pleased I chose them and have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending them.”

“From initial quote through to completion the process has been very easy and efficient, and completed within a couple of weeks. The young lads that completed the installation were polite and appear to have completed everything to a high standard. I could not fault anything really. Lynn and the team were a pleasure to deal with.”

“Initially [my] experience was great, with the sales advisor answering all my questions and the technical survey being booked within two weeks. I was told that I’d hear back in a couple of weeks.Five weeks after the survey I had heard nothing back, so emailed my sales rep to find out what was happening. Two weeks after that I called the main number and was told they’d make a note on my file for someone to call me back. Two weeks after that I called the main number again and spoke to someone who said they’d look into it and call me back. A week and a half later I called again and was told the relevant department was on break, but they’d call me back as soon as they got back. We’re coming up to a week after that call now and I haven’t had anyone call me back, so [I] still have no idea what’s happening with my order.”

Is Effective Home a good solar installer?

Thanks to its excellent Trustpilot rating, the extent of its industry certifications, and the quality of the solar panels it offers, you should feel confident in choosing Effective Home as your solar installer.

It also offers a range of payment options to suit different financial circumstances, including its Energy Shield subscription service if you want to benefit from solar power without purchasing the panels yourself.

Effective Home FAQs

Energy Shield from Effective Home is a solar panel subscription service. Instead of purchasing solar panels yourself, Effective Home installs them on your roof and then sells you the energy they generate.

You’ll be charged a fixed tariff that should be below the UK’s national average pence per kilowatt (kW) unit rate. This tariff will be reviewed every five years. Since Effective Home owns the panels, you won’t be responsible for any maintenance costs.

The number of solar panels you need to power your household will depend on the size of your home, and your energy consumption. We estimate that the average three-bedroom house in the UK will need 12 solar panels, rising to 16 solar panels for a four-bedroom home.
