Many of our members speak of their concerns over an aging workforce and a shortage of skilled people. At the heart of this, sits the need to attract the next generation of people to see construction as a rewarding, fulfilling and exciting industry to be part of. We need to speak enthusiastically to young people and potentially returning workers of the opportunities that the industry offers.

Working with government to promote construction apprenticeships in Northern Ireland

FMB NI has been working with the Careers Service, within the Department for the Economy to promote the various reasons to consider construction as a career, bust some of the myths around the industry and hear from many young people as to why working in Construction has been so rewarding for them. We were so grateful for the help of three apprentices from FMB member companies CTS Projects LimitedRahoran Ltd and AMC Construction (NI) Ltd. Their time and comments will be much appreciated by all who hear them.

What’s next?

Much work over the last six months has gone into the production of online content and will be used widely in reaching schools, parents and policymakers to drive recruitment in the years ahead. We encourage you all to read the latest Careers Occupational Information Unit Bulletin and share it as widely as you can:
