Gordon Nelson, Green Home Festival, 2022
Gordon Nelson at the 2022 Green Home Festival.

In August 2022 Scotland’s first ever Green Home Festival took place. The FMB played a leading role within Construction Industry Collective Voice (CICV) which delivered the festival. Once again, the Green Home Festival will be part of the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe with homeowners as the primary audience.

The climate emergency, net zero and soaring energy prices are the driving factors behind the Green Home Festival. We will engage the public and businesses in helping them to reduce their carbon footprint and become more energy efficient.

Gordon Nelson, FMB Scotland Director is involved in planning out the individual shows for the 2023 festival. This is where we need help from FMB members.

Is this Green Home Festival free to attend?

Yes. Some the shows will be run in-person at The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors at 10 Charlotte Square Edinburgh and others will be run online.

What help do you need from me as an FMB member for the Green Home Festival?

We need members to participate to share their experience and insights as building contractors. This can be through being part of a panel discussion or through delivering practical demonstrations and hands-on guidance to delegates.

The FMB will be playing a role in delivering four shows this year. These are ‘Green Kitchens’, ‘Windows and Doors’ ‘Fabric and Insulation’ and Garden rooms/Garden offices.’ These are just the outline titles.

When will the Green Home Festival take place?

The festival will run for the week commencing Monday 14 August.

How much time will I have to commit?

Each show will be around one hour long. Of course there will be time spent on preparation before the festival too.

What are the benefits of getting involved?

The 2022 Green Home Festival achieved widespread media coverage for the FMB. As well as publicity and a source of potential clients, members would be helping the FMB and the wider membership boost its profile on energy efficiency and low carbon construction. Getting involved will also be a great development opportunity for you and your team.

Please contact Simone McAllister or Gordon Nelson at the FMB to express your interest or to find out more.
