Kevin McLoughlin and Allan Montague of K & M McLoughlin Decorating Ltd run a training facility at their business and have put more than 620 people through pre-employment training at their own expense.
Putting aside financial gain to help those who are often overlooked, Kevin and Allan have given hundreds of people new opportunities and have helped to train the next generation of skilled tradespeople to support the construction industry.
Many of Kevin and Allan’s former trainees have gone on to start their own businesses and employ others, helping the industry to grow and thrive even when they are no longer directly involved. Their focus on recruiting trainees from under-represented backgrounds has helped change perceptions surrounding the construction industry and introduce people from all walks of life to opportunities that might never have known about.
All of this is achieved without external funding, making their contribution to the construction industry truly outstanding.
Both Kevin and Allan are active members of the FMB who attend meetings at a local and national level to promote industry best practice and to address the growing skills crisis in the industry. Their commitment to their trade and to UK construction is nothing short of inspiring, and they are both wonderful examples of Master Builders giving something back to the industry and their communities.
