Terms & Conditions
The Federation of Master Builders Limited (“FMB”) administers the 2025 Master Builder Awards (the “Awards”).
1. Nominations and eligibility
1.1. The Master Builder Awards are free to enter and anyone may be nominated to receive an Award, provided they are a company or individual who is a member of the FMB (“Master Builder”), or an employee or apprentice of a Master Builder, at the time the nomination is submitted or are applying for membership and will have become members before 10 January 2025, unless otherwise stated.
1.2. FMB employees or anyone involved with the delivery of the Awards are not eligible to be nominated and may not submit any nominations.
1.3. CLIENT PERMISSION: It is a condition of entry that a Master Builder company must obtain approval from the client:
(i) to nominate a project for an Award;
(ii) to submit details and photos of the project (for the purposes set out in these terms and conditions); and
(iii) to provide the client’s personal contact details to the FMB (for the purposes of verifying the entry). Entrants will be required to confirm they, or their nominee, have received such client consent when submitting a nomination and will be responsible for any liability incurred by the FMB as a result of or in connection with such consent not having been obtained.
1.4. Projects
1.4.1. To be eligible, all nominations for building work must relate to projects that have been completed between 1 January 2023 and 1 January 2025.
1.4.2. A project may be nominated and can win in more than one category, but each entry must be accompanied by a separate submission form. There is no limit to the number of entries one Master Builder can make or be nominated for.
1.4.3. For the project to be eligible, all work must have been wholly completed by a Master Builder or an employee or apprentice of a Master Builder.
1.4.4. Projects are not eligible where a Master Builder cannot show ownership of the project from the beginning. As an example, a submission for the category House Builder Award would not be eligible where a Master Builder completed the kitchen, bathroom, and finishes, but did not build the original structure.
1.5. Business of the Year
1.5.1. Nominations for Business of the Year must highlight achievements and challenges that the Master Builder has faced between 1 January 2023 and 1 January 2025.
1.6. Outstanding Builder of the Year
1.6.1. The tradesperson or team nominated for Outstanding Builder of the Year must have either been a Master Builder or been an employee of a Master Builder between 1 January 2023 and 1 January 2025.
1.7. Apprentice of the Year
1.7.1. The apprentice nominated for Apprentice of the Year must have been employed by a Master Builder between 1 January 2023 and 1 January 2025.
1.7.2. Apprentice nominees must be working towards completing a construction apprenticeship programme or have finished their apprenticeship within the 12 months prior to 31 January 2025. The nominees can be full time, part time, or flexible apprentices. Each nominee will be judged on what they have achieved in their individual time frame.
1.8. Workplace Culture Award
1.8.1. Nominations for Workplace Culture Award must highlight achievements and challenges that the Master Builder has faced between 1 January 2023 and 1 January 2025.
1.9. Nominations must be submitted online via the FMB website. The FMB reserves the right to refuse any entries that are incomplete or not in the correct format.
1.10. An entry is made up of:
- the nomination;
- nominees contact details;
- a description of the project, including potentially the client testimonial; and
- images and/or videos of the project (for publicity purposes).
1.11. By submitting the nomination form, the entrant:
1.11.1. Will be deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions;
1.11.2. Confirms that they are authorised to do so by the Master Builder, if they are acting on behalf of the Master Builder, for example a PR or marketing agency; and;
1.11.3. Confirms that the nominee is eligible be nominated to receive an Award in the relevant Award category.
1.12. Nominations must be submitted and received by 5pm on Friday 10 January 2025. The FMB accepts no responsibility for entries that are incomplete, lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
1.13. Entrants may be asked to provide further information and/or images (including client details for the project) for the purposes of verifying the eligibility of the nomination.
1.13. Entrants giving false or misleading information will be excluded from the Awards. This includes if an entrant is unable to provide the client details upon request, for the purpose of validating an entry. If an Award is given and it is subsequently found that the entry information was false or misleading, the FMB reserves the right to rescind the Award and may also affect the Award winner’s (or their employer’s) continued membership of the FMB.
1.15. The FMB reserves the right to exclude any nomination from the judging process or winning an Award where the conduct of Master Builder, or an employee or apprentice of a Master Builder, could call the reputation of the FMB into disrepute or the Master Builder, or an employee or apprentice of a Master Builder, breaches the FMB Code of Conduct.
1.16 The FMB reserves the right to exclude any nomination from the judging process or winning an Award where the Master Builder has an open dispute case.
1.17. The FMB reserves the right to extend the closing date for nomination submissions
1.18. The Master Builder is obligated to provide prior written notice promptly to the FMB once becoming aware of any significant changes in their business circumstances throughout the duration of the awards and nominations process. This includes, but is not limited to, the commencement of liquidation, administration, or receivership proceedings, change of control in ownership, entry into a voluntary arrangement with their creditors, ceasing or threatening to cease to carry on all or a substantial part of their business, or any other material changes that could impact their business operations. FMB reserves the right to exclude any nomination from judging or winning an Award in connection with the aforementioned provisions.
1.19. Without limiting its other rights or remedies, the FMB reserves the right to hold void, amend, suspend, or cancel the 2025 Master Builder Awards where it becomes necessary to do so.
2. Publicity
2.1. The FMB does not claim any rights of ownership over the contents of any entry.
2.2. By submitting an entry and any accompanying material, the entrant agrees (and confirms that they are authorised to do so by the Master Builder, if they are acting on behalf of the Master Builder), that:
2.2.1. the FMB may, but is not required to, use:
2.2.1.1. the content of the entry;
2.2.1.2. the Master Builder’s business name;
2.2.1.3. descriptions of the projects within the Award submissions; and
2.2.1.4. nominations and winning entries, including their name and logo, images and video content, for publicity purposes, including but not limited to future marketing material and promotion of the Awards and the FMB on the FMB website, in member communications, in media promotions, at the Awards ceremony, in marketing collateral (including adverts), in FMB publications and social media, unless the entrant withholds such consent to this in writing.
2.2.2. The entrant grants (or will obtain for) the FMB a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes;
2.2.3. The content of entries submitted online may be accessible publicly through the FMB website;
2.2.4. The content of the entry must be lawful and not confidential;
2.2.5. The FMB will collect, retain, use and distribute your personal data in order to help the FMB process and manage the Awards entry. Will be processed in accordance with the FMBs Privacy Policy available to view at www.fmb.org.uk/privacy-policy;
2.2.6. If the entry contains any personal details relating to another individual, you have the permission of that individual to share their personal data with the FMB for the purposes described in these terms and conditions.
2.3. Without prejudice to the general consent given in clause 2.2 above, by submitting photos entrants:
2.3.1. confirm that that they have the right to use and distribute the photos for the purposes of the Awards and for their use by FMB for publicity purposes as described in these terms and conditions;
2.3.2. will ensure that any photos of projects do not contain any image of any individuals - except for the Award categories of Outstanding Builder of the Year, Workplace Culture Award, Business of the Year and Apprentice of the Year Awards where permission must be obtained from the individuals in the images; and
2.3.3. grant to (or will obtain for) the FMB a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the photos to use and disclose the photos to third parties for FMB’s promotional and marketing purposes as described in these terms and conditions. Attribution will always be given to the Master Builder and/or the owner of the image where possible.
2.4. If you or your nominee objects to any or all of your/their details including name, business name, and the content of your entry including images and photos being published or used by the FMB as described above, please write to the 2025 Master Builder Awards team at [email protected].
2.5. The entrant will be responsible for any liability incurred by the FMB as a result of or in connection with consent not having been obtained for entry contents submitted, including but not limited to remuneration costs owed to copyright holders and issuers of licences of any of the images and/or photos submitted.
2.6. An Award logo will be provided to all regional and national winners with guidelines regarding its use in winner marketing activity by the recipient. Winners may state in advertising and promotional material that they have won an Award, but they must state the year the Award was won, and for which region (unless the Award won is a national Award).
2.7. Only the Master Builder business named in the Awards entry is entitled to use the Award logo, or and claims in words about winning the Award. All Awards are non-transferable. Any other businesses that the business owners may own or be associated with, or a company that acquires the Master Builder business is not entitled to use the Awards logo or to make claims in words about being an FMB Award winner.
2.8. By entering or being nominated for the Apprentice of the Year, the apprentice and their employer will be required to participate in any requested publicity wherever reasonably practical.
2.9. All winners agree to participate in any requested publicity, which includes publicity of the prizes, wherever reasonably practicable for a period of up to one year after the date the Award was won.
3. Judging
3.1. There will be a two-stage judging process.
3.2. In the initial stage (for all categories except Workplace Culture Award):
3.2.1. The nominations will not be shortlisted.
3.2.2. Nominations will be judged independently by a regional/devolved nations judging panel. Nominations will be allocated to the region based on their registered trading address, not the location of the project, for example if a Master Builder’s trading address is based in Scotland and they built a house in England, that project would be entered into the Scotland Awards.
3.2.3. A winner for each Award category will be selected for each region/devolved nation unless no entries are received for the category, or the entries received do not meet the criteria or are deemed by the judges to be of insufficient merit.
3.3. In the second stage (for all categories including Workplace Culture Award):
3.3.1 a shortlist of all the regional/devolved winners will then be submitted to a separate independent judging panel who will select the overall national winners.
3.4. In each stage the judges will (acting reasonably) determine the standard of each Award category and may not give an Award in any category if, in their view, entries are not of sufficient merit.
3.5. The judges’ decisions are final and Awards will be assigned at their discretion. No correspondence will be entered in to.
3.6. Please also note that due to the high volume of entries received it is not possible to provide individual feedback for entries.
3.7. The regional/devolved winners of each category will be announced at the Regional Awards ceremonies due to take place throughout Spring and early Summer 2025.
3.8. The national winner of each category will be announced at the National Awards Ceremony due to take place on Friday 26 September 2025 in Manchester.
4. Prizes
4.1. The major national prizes are as follows:
4.1.1. Overall 2025 Master Builder Award Winner (Master Builder of the Year) – a new Isuzu Pick Up worth more than £42,000 (motor insurance and any running costs are not included). Please note, nominations cannot be submitted for this Award. The Overall 2025 Master Builder Award Winner will be selected by a national judging panel from the pool of national category winners (excluding Outstanding Builder of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Workplace Culture Award and Business of the Year).
4.1.2. 2025 Master Builder Apprentice of the Year National Winner – cheque for £500.
4.2. The FMB retains the right to substitute the prize for the Overall 2025 Master Builder Award Winner with another prize of similar value in the event that the original prize offered is not available. No cash alternatives will be given.
4.3. The prize is not negotiable or transferable and cannot be changed.
4.4. All regional and national category winners will receive a trophy and winner logo.
5. Limitation of FMB’s liability
Insofar as is permitted by law, the FMB will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate any winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the FMB or that of its employees.
6. Data Protection
6.1. All personal information collected by the FMB for the purposes of the Awards will be collected and processed by the FMB for the purposes of evaluating and processing the nomination and promoting the FMB and the Awards, as described in these terms and conditions, and in accordance with all applicable data protection legislation. More detail on how personal information that you provide to us is collected, used, and disclosed by the FMB and our subsidiaries can be found on our website at www.fmb.org.uk/privacy-policy.
6.2. These terms and conditions are governed by and shall be interpreted in accordance with English law. Any disputes arising in relation to the interpretation of these terms and conditions or in relation to any agreement of which these terms and conditions form part, which cannot be settled amicably, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
